Damn vampires at 12:07 a.m. on 2004-09-16 as long as I can remember I have alwasys been terrified of needles. Yeah yeah, how can I hope to be a paramedic if I'm nervouse of a little poke? It's easy, I'm poking you and not the other way around. Anyways... the thought of having blood drawn made me cringe, let alone donating blood. This all changed when I donated my blood for my father who was going to have surgery and could very well need it. I went it, whined and bitched till after they stuck me then I was fine. It really wasn't that bad and I felt great for doing it. I felt so great that I decided to go back down and do it again as soon as I was eligible. It so happened I could go back the day before I left for Cali. to go to my friend's wedding. I went down there without hesitation. I even got one of my friend's to go and donate with me. Everything was fine till I got stuck. I have great big veins. I'm the kind of person they dream about. But then again shit happens. The lady went in and through the vein, but when she backed the needle up a little she was back in my vien and everything was flowing like it should, but my arm was aching a bit more than I liked. I got about half way through when the blood stopped flowing. The lady started to move the needle back and forth and side to side and she would also squeeze the tube which would send sharp pain and an intense burning sensations down my arm. She called over another gal and she did the same thing. They had me in tears, it hurt so bad. They had gotten it to flow again and I grit my teeth to finish filling the bag. My entire hand went numb in the process. Once they got enough blood to fill their unit, they finally took the needle out even though I was ready to take that out about five mins prior. I had a huge purple lump on my arm and I couldn't lift anything with it. They still told me not to get discouraged and come back again. I'll give them one more chance. If they do that again the answer won't be no it'll be HELL NO! I had to go to the wedding with a deep purple bruise that was about an inch and a half around. The only good thing that I got out of the experience was a certificate for a free burrito at my fav food joint, Chipotle, for donating. It's a good thing that I believe that it is important to donate and have blood available for any unfortunate person that may need it or I would have turn tail and run far far away without ever looking back. Tomorrow will be a week since I went down there and my arm is still black and blue.
