Puppy Pizza at 6:51 p.m. on 2004-09-05 The most shocking thing that I have been witness to during my internship had nothing to do with a patient or even a human, it was a little dog. I was completely stunned when I saw a little chiuaua run across the street and take on a truck head on. It's one thing to see roadkill but to watch one become roadkill is another. Very icky. My preceptor, Donny boy, was hanging out in the back of the ambulance while the medic and I were up front driving. He had no idea what was going on. All he heard was the following: " Awww look at the little puppy, I want to take him home. We should stop" "Uh-ho. uh uh uh. Oh-no. AHHHHHHH!!!! "Keep driving! Keep driving!" He looked out the back window and saw what we were talking about and began to relentlessly tease us. Don, " Awww... how can you just leave the poor thing? Turn around. Multi system trauma, we better call the trauma center and go code three, lights and sirens. Sure you guys want to take him home before he got hit. What you don't want him now cause he's damaged goods? Cold hearted bastards. Look, his tails still wagging!" Me, " Ummm, Don, that's not wagging. He's twitching." It was horrible. I felt so awful for the poor thing. But we couldn't stop traffic for a smushed dog, so we kept driving. Of course, the rest of the day Donny boy busted our chops about what happened and our reaction. The whole story was we saw the dog dart out into the street and our side of the road completely stoped. Unfornately, the other side wasn't paying so much attention and the truck went right over him. I don't even think that they knew they hit anything cause the never even slowed down. Shows how much attention people give to the road while driving. Usually seeing the opposite side of the road at a complete stop hints that something is going on. Ok drivers you need to snap out of la la land when behind the wheel or you may one day become the assassin of the "Yo quiero Taco bell" Dog.
